the heat

today it was a rainy 24 degrees! a big change from the heat we have had for most of January and the heatwave that set in February. Sydney had 4 days with temps over 38 degress and it was 40 here for 2 days. The bottom half of our country scorched while some of the top was under metres of water??? Australia can produce some of the most powerful weather, especially in summer. On the weekend fires started in VIC and in NSW. Sadly in VIC they were fires like no one else had ever seen, raging fires that stood over 50 to 80m tall, they took homes leaving over 5000 homeless and killed at least 173 people. I feel for the people that just wanted to save their memories and their homes, they became trapped with no idea of the horrific bushfire blazing towards them.

after seeing all the sadness on the news I will remember that while life may seem tough with problems, nothing is more precious than being alive

1st Feb to the 8th

Heatwave!!!!!! A very hot week. Lots of afternoons in the pool and sweaty nights.

On Thursday Max was very upset after swimming. I quickly found out why as he vomited everywhere and then was sick way into the early hours of Friday. He recovered Friday and we went to Zoe's third birthday in the 40 degree heat on Saturday ( I think we had 4 days in a row with temps over 38). I then caught the bug!!! It really took valuable time away from what would have been a very relaxing weekend.

Darren RARELY gets in the pool, he might have been in it around 10-15 times, the heatwave got him in and we had a great Sunday afternoon relaxing and enjoying the Summer.

Little did we know (don't tend to watch much TV on the weekend) that Victoria was battling massive bushfires and lives had been lost. A cool brezze ended the HOT week!!!!

Thursday the 5th

How a wonderful day can turn to vomit!!!!This HOT day started off wonderfully. A nice morning swim, where Max continued to amaze me with his tricks in the pool. I taught him how to push off backstroke style and he swam on his back with his head submerged underwater!!!!

Some quick school work and a chat on the phone to Narelle about school things. Max was quite OH NO........he came to my scraproom door and announced "Rex got blue eyes", I thought he said glue and questioned WHERE he got glue from. On inspection I walked into the bathroom and had a big slip and slide on BLUE liquid soap!!!! When asked about the mess, Max threw Greg Wiggle in the air and said "Greg done it, i don't do it"!!! INNOCENT?? i think not!!!!

A lovely lunch, a catch up on my January Russell photos, some toy cleaning and then Max slept in his big bed for the first time.

We went off to swimming and he swam well. Max is still developing a trust with his new teacher as he does not seem to do as much with her as he did with Debbie I am sure it is a trust issue as he has been with Debbie since he was 9 months.

When Max got out of the car after swimming I got the mail. Before I knew it, VOMIT was everywhere!!! Poor baby. Max continued to vomit through the night. He missed the bowl and his second ever sleep in his big bed which saw me pulling sheets and quilts off in the early hours of the morning.

OH how a great day can turn to vomit!!!

26th Jan to 31st

A big week

Max and I had 5 weeks of holiday-ing, kicking back, doing what we wanted!!!! (((gotta love school holidays))). We celebrated his 3rd birthday with lots of friends and family, it was hot and we all partied in the pool. Max swam with his friends for over 4 hours and by 7pm he nearly fell asleep in his dinner! My legs ached from the clean up!!!!

Then on Tuesday ROUTINE HIT (((HARD))). It was back to early mornings, lunch boxes and work. Tuesday went ok......Max went to Linda's armed with cake to celebrate with.

On Wednesday it was time to start preschool. Max was up at SIX AM???!!!! By 8am he was tired. The toilet battle started, he refused to go to the toilet and I started to stress. By 8.15 he was crying and I wanted to cry and GIVE UP. After we picked dad up we both calmed down and we walked into Preschool and he posed for a photo and said goodbye.....I was so proud of him. I left work early as he has to be picked up at 2.30 for 4 weeks. When i got there my baby was asleep in a teachers arms, he apparently cried himself to sleep. He had had a few teary moments during the day and wet his pants at lunch time. When he saw me he was emotional but seemed to talk positively about the day. There is just a need to get him used to the toilets there.

Thursday I wanted to go into work to finish a few things I needed to do and to make up some time from Wednesday. When i dropped Max at Linda's he sobbed his heart out. POOR baby!!! He was so tired and emotional. He missed his sleep ins so much. When we were leaving Linda's he chucked a massive tantrum and threw himself all over the place (he thought her DVD was ours), he cried all the way home and continued for 15 minutes when we got home. He was drenched in sweat from head to toe and had wet his pants, it was tooo cruel to take a photo, but i tell you he was a MESS.

Our swimming lesson was moved as Max needed to move up a class, the afternoon time slot is great, frees up my day off. Max did not see it that way, he burst into tears again. A new teacher, a new time and the fact that she taught on the other side of the pool was too much to handle.

Friday went ok but it was the 4th day with temps above 30. Max was home with my mum. Southern Australia was in a heatwave with temps above 40. we were in the pool to 9pm.

Saturday, usual sleep in day but the BRIGHT HOT sun woke me so I got up and got some jobs done. then Narelle and I drove to scraploot and Max was a HANDFUL, I sounded like the screaming USELESS mother. I had had enough by 11am!!!!! lucky Max was asleep by 12, he was unwell again and slept until 4pm, only to be back in bed again at 8.30pm.....WHAT A WEEK!!!!

Happy 3rd Birthday to our gorgeous boy

I was making up your brand new big boy bed tonight and I looked at my watch.....1.15am....about the time I went into labour with you 3 years ago! and here I am making your new bed and about to wrap your presents for you 3rd birthday. I didn't shed a tear, I am ok (compared to the mess I was at your 1st birthday), i am mainly sad that your cot and baby room will be empty soon, fingers crossed not for long.

Happy birthday to our gorgeous man........we love you to "infinity and beyond".

Also happy Australia day, I am not only thankful for a gorgeous Aussie boy but I am thankful I live in this sensational country !!!!!!!

January sooooo far!

I was going to post last week but I was in the worst mood. I had a sick puppy, and I made a vow "I was never doing puppies again"!!!! Our poor little pup went unnamed for several days and then finally we got Milly!!!!! She is good, but gee she was sick! She had a tummy bug and was PROJECTILE you know what ......alll over the place. After a trip to the vet she is fine!!!! and we have taught her to sit too!!!!

I am finally catching up on my year in review layouts as I missed 2007 as during last Summer holidays I had no scraproom!!!!

Twas the month after Christmas

Twas the month after Christmas,

and all through the house,

Nothing would fit me,

not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled,

the chocolate I'd taste

and the holiday parties

had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales

there arose such a number!

When I walked to the store

(less a walk than a lumber),

I'd remember the marvellous meals I'd prepared;

The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls,

the bread and the cheese

And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt

And prepared once again to do battle with dirt...

I said to myself, as I only can,

"You can't spend a winter, disguised as a man!"

So, away with the last of the sour cream dip.

Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished

Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie, not even a lick.

I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie.

I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore...

But isn't that what January is for?

Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.

today

Oh boy, today was one of those days!!!!

A wonderful trip to IKEA with Alison, Rebecca and Max. lots of cool things bought and a gorgeous salad roll was ENJOYED. plus max ate chips and I did not STEAL one!!! YAY I am doing well!

we came back home for a dip in the pool. then it was time for Max to have a nap, he insisted on sleeping downstairs and I went upstairs to iron. The phone rang and I chatted. I spoke for a while and then I wondered if he was settled or gotten up to play. Max had WRAPPED himself in a cocoon with my handmade quilt. He was TIGHTLY wrapped from HEAD to TOE, I even walked past him at first thinking he was NOT THERE he looked so small. my heart was in my mouth. IF only i was on the cordless V would have heard my panic and STRESS. He was boiling hot and with sweat DRIPPING off him, he was red and I practically flung him across the room in panic and the fact I had to UNROLL him to get him out.

I wonder if I had ironed and gotten in my own little WORLD if I would have checked for at least an hour, I thank the heavens V rang and it made me LOOK, as I was closer to the area!!!!!! He took the blanket off the lounge, maybe because the air was on downstairs and he was tired????!!!!!! I am thankful he is OK!!!!!! I was soooo shaken and scared, we talked about it tonight and he said he was hiding, I explained how he cant do that and he giggled......my voice became stern and he said "OK MUMMY, OK!!!!!"

THEN I went dog hunting again, not satisfied with the red dog I had found yesterday. I hit the jackpot I FOUND a little black and white girl.

her mother is the COOLEST staffy I have ever met. She was soooo well trained and it made me want to really put lots of work in and get this girl the same!!!!

NOW only for a name????!!!!!!!

THEN (yes it was only 8.30 when we bought the dog) STILL plenty of hours for MORE adventure.....

we got home at 9 and went in the pool, WHY not it was still 28 degrees at 9 pm, and the pool was heated to 26 so really only 2 degrees cooler in!!!! We swam until 10.25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG I love summer no bed times and lots of FUN, routine NO WAY !!!!! I fed my child dinner at 10.35. A WHOLESOME chicken, veges and rice, which he gulped down and he was in bed and snoozing by 11pm!!!!!

cant wait for tomorrow, a hot 40, oh don't you just LOVE SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

we went puppy hunting today! I am soooo sick of looking I am IMPATIENT. We think we have found a cute one, but not really the markings/colour i wanted. We have had a red and black staffy and I wanted something different. they are just not out there. I am telling myself to wait!!! but it is HARD...any cool girl name suggestions for a staffy??

we had a quiet one here! i wanted to scrap but a swim, a nice dinner, UNO and some street fireworks got in the way.

I am finally getting my groove back on the scrapping front! I have only done 2 layouts but I am going to keep on with this roll!!!


I am still giggling at this layout!!!! It took hours, it was like I forgot how to scrap!!!!! I procrastinated and took so much time to word the journaling!!!!! it is about if being a boy is innate!!!
and YES they are band-aids!!!! I had this idea to add these cool star rub ons to the band aids ( I had no masking tape). but NOTE TO SELF rub ons DO NOT RUB ON band aids!!!!! maybe I have started a hot trend for 09 - BAND AIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our friends knoocked down thier house and had a demo party that was COOL

I had a brilliant class that I adored teaching - I will miss them

Dec 28 - a catch up!

Merry Christmas !!!!!!!!

Sadly I could not keep up with Daily blogging - December was crazy!!!!! Reports, shopping, catch ups, wrapping and work got in the way!!!

Christmas day was brilliant as we had a 2.11 month old in the house!!!!! He just lapped it all up and opened everything this year!!!

Dec 24 - bye bye dum dums

A busy busy day but a proud moment!!!!!!

We were up and about early and I was prepping Max that we had to pack his dummies up as Santa needed them for his baby reindeers. I told him he would get a present he would LOVE in return!!!!!

All Max would say in reply was "and a lolly too????" I think a lolly would have been enough to make you hand over the dummies as you did it quickly, accepted the present and snatched the lolly and asked me to open it in a flash!!!!!!

I highly recommend this car to any wiggles fan, the Wiggles figurines are like little Lego men and and can can be pushed along!!!!! He loves giving them all a turn at driving!!!!!

Dec 19 - staff night out

HOLIDAYS ARE HERE!!!!!and for all of you that say we get 6 weeks....sorry it is FIVE!!!!!

I think Narelle and I really need a holiday, if I read or corrected one more report I think my head would have popped off! I am really sad as I had to say goodbye to one of the nicest and smartest classes I have ever taught! However 5 weeks to do what I WANT and sleep in, nothing tastes sweeter after a year that has been hectic and moved so fast!!!!!!

Saying goodbye to the year sixes today was also sad as they were the FIRST ever kids to receive Reading Recovery at BPS, the first ones I ever taught! thanks for a fun year to all involved ! Narelle, words cant express how I feel............I am hoping you can hear me with out saying tooo much here!!!!!

Dec 18 - meeting Heidi Swapp

A busy day.

Darren was home. Off to the doctor. Swimming then to look at puppies!

Nice cold meat and fresh rolls for lunch.

Max went to bed and I packed up my 9kgs of Heidi product.

Met Alison for a coffee.

Off to Scraploot. The shop has scrapbooking eye candy everywhere!!!!!!

It was great to catch up with old and new friends and to see and hear Heidi talk, she was such a 'pocket rocket' and great to listen too!

At 7 I jumped in the car and went and picked up some presents I needed from Big W and I was on my way to the year 6 farewell!!!! It was time to say goodbye to the first group of Reading Recovery kids at BPS. They all made me very proud !!!!

Maureen made me happy to when I heard her sing!!!!!(teacher at my school) I am a FAN!!!!!! Mel had to settle me down as I screamed out!!! I was very proud of Maureen for the fantastic job she did with these kids and how she taught them how to sing and perform. It was a great year 6 farewell! I got home at 11.50 to a screaming MAX and had to settle him as he was upset I was not home. I then set out to wrap many gifts for the kids at FDC and some teachers pressies, I wrote in cards and packed lunches and CRAWLED into bed at 2am, ready to start the day at 6.30!!!!!

wow lucky this stuff is cheap. It trailed out the bedroom door near the top of the staircase, he even taped up my punch too! Lucky it was a short shower!!!!!!

Dec. 12

tonight Max and I hung his sign in his bedroom window. I love how he just stands and watches it. I read it to him and he nodded and said "yes Santa stop in my room, come Santa, COME ON".

He is loving all the lights and the fun of Christmas! Santa is his new best friend and I am so lucky to have his phone number as I keep him updated. One call can really change the way a boy behaves.

i love the fact that Max adores Santa this year!!!! HE gets soooo excited when he sees him and he always tells me he loves Santa as he gives him lollies!!!!!

dec 8 - work

Work this time of the year is soooo tough! there are reports, happy and upset parents and staff, 09 class lists and staff to organise, DVDs to make, presentation day, resources to pack away, stocktakes, rooms to pack up ...... the list is ENDLESS. Today I woke up tired and was tired all day, late nights, report writing and marking are not agreeing with me and then there is my house which needs a clean and the 5 ironing baskets are wondering if they will ever see the wardrobe again. I am tired and I hate the fact I am tired, I want to party and play with my class, today we made reindeers and had fun singing Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, then it was off to more assistant principal tasks..........my legs hurt too!!!!!

It is 11.54pm. I am going to hang a load of washing out then I am off to bed.

it was great to have a catch up with Darren's mechanics and their wives/partners. We enjoyed a lovely meal at Rashay's (my fave restaurant) and the boys drank a bit to much.

dec 4 - a typical thursday

My day off and Max and I had a sleep in until 8.30! oops forgot to change playground duties and rang the school at 8.31 and 22 seconds....phew all under control!!!
I dashed around all morning tidying my very untidy house, washing, mail and toys. We got ready and arrived at swimming at 10.32!!! Max had a great lesson and I was happy with how he can now swim for a few metres on his back by himself. We then went to the Christmas shop, dropped in to pick a quilt up from Karen (as she was moving out of the rental).......well moving stuff as people cant live there yet but that is a whole other story!!!! We shopped at Bonnyrigg plaza and Max had a great chat with Santa and then home for lunch and lots of cleaning, more tidying, sorting, clothes folding and ironing. Before I knew it it was 5pm !!!!!!!!!!!!

dec 3 - Snow white

Our annual school concert was held tonight. After 8 weeks of rehearsals and me shouting 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 again...stronger, move your hips!!!! Snow White - set to some funky music came alive. It was great watching our school yesterday in the dress rehearsal, we have some very talented kids (and teachers) and this is the kids time to shine...........so many of them belong in private dance schools but it is out of the parents reach, and we have the BEST group of boy dancers I have ever SEEN!!!! Go BPS!!!! we did do a great job tonight!!!! i love being a teacher with great moments like this!!!!!

Max LOVED it..he bopped around and clapped and cheered!!!!

dec 2 - an afternoon swim

Max said "Look mum....I can fly...like buzz but no wings or buttons on me".

It was 29 here this afternoon so we jumped in for a nice afteroon swim when I got home from work!

DECEMBER!!!!! already!!!!

No way!!! I am feeling overwhelmed at this moment....sooo much on my plate to get done in such a short time! I see my class maybe 4 more days and lots of time in the office getting all the little things done! You can soooo tell it is report time and the end of term is approaching...my house is a mess I have 4 baskets of ironing and I am TIRED!

This all of course did not stop me from going to Karen's annual "lightening of the lights" tonight. Max was adorable when Santa arrived, for 2 years I have gotten him on the ute and has screamed........tonight I could not get him off as he was IN LOVE with Santa....or the lollies I am not sure which one!!!!! He sat on his knee and chatted and told him he was a good boy!!!! Photos tomorrow I promise!

I am SOOOOOOO commited to December daily this year again...I have not made my album....heck I have not made 2006s album but I WILL this year I promise!!!!!!! as soon as the reports are done and my classroom is packed up and all my paperwork is DONE!!!! lol

1st - a wonderful evening at Aunty Karen's and Uncle Mark's lighting of the lights. You sat on the ute and watched Santas every move. You chatted with him and told him you like lollies. You rode your bike until we left at 10.50pm!!!!

Bronte 8.11.1999 to 19.11.2008

In oct 1999 Darren and I were married and we began to look for Staffys straight away. We did not realise it was going to be so hard to find a GOOD dog and some breeders were not helpful. Finally a fluke phone call led me to Wilma .......she had puppies, she lived local and she was NORMAL!!!!! When we met we discovered we know each other as I was her daughters squad swimming coach.

Bronte had a beautiful mother, Ruby and 6 brothers and sisters.

We took her home on Jan.1 2000.

Bronte you had the best personality and I have so many memories of you as MY DOG!!!

• We would go off to training together at the local showground where you learnt lots of tricks.
• We put you in 2 shows where you came 1st and 5th......show life was not for us and we never went back.
• You were a water baby......any chance of getting wet and you would be there.
• You hated storms and fireworks. You tried to rip the screen door of once and cut all your mouth open as you freaked in a storm.
• You had the cutest puppy dog eyes.
• Your ball was your dummy.
• You loved your staffy ball and would attack any ball until it was dead flat.
• When we were building the pool it was your lake and you splashed around in the hole everyday.
• You chased your tall and barked for the last 3-4 years.
• You lost much deserved love when Max came into our lives.
• When we lost Pebbles I was sad but excited that you would be our only dog again.
• You ate anything I gave you .....I am going to miss my garbage bin. I used to feed you fruit ice sticks on hot days.
• You were a good inside dog and you would always protect us.
• On New years EVE in 04/05 we locked in the garage due to the fireworks.......we went out all night...........you and Pebs SOME HOW pushed through a locked sliding door and TERRORISED the house, it took me 3 hours to clean the place up

I miss you "fat girl"..................the backyard is now a lonely place. Your blue ball is here and I will cherish it. I so wish you could have taken it with you, you were rarely without a ball in your mouth.

thanks for 9 fantastic years as MY DOG, I am sorry you had to die alone at the vets, I just wanted to hug you one last time

IDOL

I was lucky enough to go to Australian IDOL tonight. I was feeling sooo tired, old and NOT BOTHERED on the weekend, I just did not want to go......but I am sooooo glad I did.
I got to chat with Kyle and get a photo with him. He so sexy and such a cuddly bear, I will miss the Kyle and Jackie O show on the radio making me laugh after this week.
The final 3 are really HOT and sang soooo well, I tell you it will be close.
